Donald Manalili

Donald Lee Manalili, 80, of Hilo, died Sept. 12, 2018, at the Hilo Medical Center. He was born in Milolii, and was a retired educational coordinator with the State of Hawaii, Department of Education and a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Friends may call 8:30-10 a.m. Sept. 24 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church for a 10 a.m. memorial Mass. Aloha attire, no flowers.

He is survived by his wife, Mercedes Manalili of Hilo; son, Kevin (Jane) Manalili; daughters, Donalynn (Pat) Baba and Sherilynn (Patrick) Wheeler; mother, Hilda Manalili; brothers, James (Janice) Manalili, Frank (Jocelyn) Manalili, Dennis (Jere) Manalili and Herman (Harriet) Manalili; sister, Irene Greenhouse; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Leopoldo Galapon

Leopoldo “Leo” “Poldo” Eugenio Aguinaldo Galapon, 92, of Keaau, died Sept. 2, 2018, at Hilo Medical Center. Born on Nov. 16, 1925, in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, he was a tailor and retired nursery worker. He loved taking pictures of his family.

Visitation will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. Sept. 21 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel, Hilo. Prayer Service is at 6:30 p.m. Casual attire and no flowers.

He is survived by, wife, Juliana Ramoran Galapon; daughters, Norma (Raymon) Bolosan of Papaaloa, Zenaida (Ruperto) Agngarayngay of Keaau, Mildred (Pedrito) Mercado of Maui, Carol (Francisco) Mangoba of Papaaloa and Rowena (Nathan) Takiguchi of Hilo; son, Ruben (Marites) Galapon of Keaau; brother, Mariano (Agustina) Galapon of Canada; 23 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; predeceased by sisters, Salud Rivera and Caridad Aguinaldo. Darrell Kobayashi

Darrell Pono Kobayashi, 60, of Kailua-Kona, died Sept. 4, 2018, at Kona Community Hospital. Born on June 12, 1958, in Hilo, he was a commercial truck driver for HD Supply and a U.S. Air Force veteran. He was a member of the Kona LOLO’S Golf Club.

Visitation will be held from 4-5 p.m. Sept. 22 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel, Hilo. A celebration of life is at 5 p.m. Casual attire and no flowers.

He is survived by parents, Ronald and Shirley Kobayashi of Keaau; sister, Ronna (Ron) Pereira of Keaaui; life partner, Maria Dela Cruz of Waimea; sons, Joshua Pono (Sara) Kobayashi of Waikoloa, and Aaron Keaka Kobayashi of Honolulu; four grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Calixta Andrada

Calixta Calidayan Andrada, 82, of Pahoa, died Aug. 22, 2018, at the Life Care Center of Hilo. She was born in the Philippines.

Friends may call 4-6 p.m. Sept. 22 at the Hilo Baptist Church, 600 W. Lanikaula St. in Hilo. Memorial service will take place at 6 pm. Family requests casual attire.

She is survived by spouse, Bernabe Andrada of Pahoa; daughter, Nancy Tolentino of Pahoa; son, Jorge (Lily) Andrada of Italy; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Alexander Kamau

Alexander “Bull” Kahalialaulani Kamau, 78, of Hilo, died Sept. 6, 2018, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born on Aug. 11, 1940, in Hilo, he was a retired working foreman for HELCO. He was also a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Mindbenders and HELCO softball teams and the Kawailani Kumiai.

Visitation will be from 8-10:30 a.m. Sept. 28 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hilo. Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. with burial to follow at Homelani Memorial Park, Ilima section. Casual attire.

He is survived by wife, Patricia “Pat” Kamau of Hilo; sons, Richard (Anne) Kamau of Puna and Robert (Priscilla) Kamau of Hilo; daughter, Robin (Thomas) Mattos of Hilo; sisters, Mary Fragas of Hilo, Lei Pae of Oahu and Margie Lerch of North Carolina; one brother-in-law; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bruce Mavety

Bruce Paul Mavety, 47, of Pahoa and Hilo, formerly from California; died Sept. 13, 2018, at Hilo Medical Center. He was born in Los Angeles.

An urn committal/ burial will be held at 2 p.m. Sept. 22 at Alae Cemetery, new urn section. Casual attire flowers and lei are welcomed.

He is survived by numerous family members from the mainland.

Suzuko Yamamoto

Suzuko Yamamoto, 95 of Captain Cook, died Aug. 27, 2018, at Hilo Medical Center. She was born on June 4, 1923, in Pahala. She was a housewife.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Sept. 22 at Ballard Family Mortuary-Hilo. Service begins at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Homelani Cemetery at noon.

She is survived by sons, Darryn (Debra) Yamamoto of Hilo, Iran Yamamoto, Dan Yamamoto of Hilo; daughter, Verna (Randy) Yamabe of Kona; sister, Sandra Saiki of Aiea; brothers, Kenzo (Eunice) Hashimoto of Waiohinu, Susumu (Nancy) Hashimoto of Kaneohe; one sister-in-law; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Patricia Fergerstrom

Patricia “Pat” Carol Fergerstrom, 84, of Hilo, died Sept. 10, 2018, at Hilo Medical Center. She was born on May 19, 1934, in Hilo and was a homemaker and an employee of the former HT&T. She was also a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo.

Visitation will be held from 8:30-9:45 a.m. Sept. 25 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hilo. Memorial Mass begins at 10:30 a.m.; inurnment to follow at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 Columbarium. Casual attire and no flowers.

She is survived by daughters, Patti-Jo (Wallace Tamashiro) Fergerstrom-Tamashiro of Hilo and Cindy (Fred Palea) Fergerstrom-Palea of Hilo; son, Patward Fergerstrom of Hilo; two sisters-in-law; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Fergerstrom.
